Coastal engineering is a specialised field of engineering – responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of works on the shoreline and within nearshore waters.
Our coastal engineers are involved in the many activities associated with identifying physical processes shaping local shorelines; the appropriate management of shoreline erosion problems; the protection of coastal assets against extreme storm surges and severe wave conditions; identifying and implementing effective climate change adaptation strategies; and in general, ensuring the successful integration of coastal works into the dynamic coastal zone.
