Project Description
This benchmark beach nourishment project involved upgrading 2km of significantly degrading shoreline and seawalls along The Strand foreshore in Townsville to incorporate beaches and headlands – the aim being to provide foreshore protection against cyclone induced beach recession, while at the same time providing a high quality community asset.
Coastal Engineering Solutions was initially commissioned to review the original planning scheme, and to then translate it into practical coastal engineering alternatives for the implementation of beaches and headlands.
Detailed coastal processes studies for both The Strand coastal precinct and the adjoining Rowes Bay coastal reach were then carried out by our project team. This contributed to considerably improved understanding of the sand transport regime on The Strand coastal reach. This was then followed by our detailed engineering design and preparation of construction documentation for the development of the final scheme.
Again it is this demonstrated depth and breadth of technical understanding of local coastal processes shown by our coastal engineers, in conjunction with practical engineering design skills that contributed so significantly to achieving the aims of the iconic Strand Redevelopment Project.
